5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS LITTLE MACHINE, May 18, 2011

This review is from: Nespresso Essenza C101 Espresso Maker with Aeroccino Milk Frother, Black (Kitchen)
I worked in an office that had one of these and I just loved the coffee it made. So, I bit the bullet after spending five years making French Pressed coffee and purchased one of these sweet little coffee/espresso makers for my home. I will still make the French Press every once in a while, but this is so great for every day that I don't miss the French Press at all.

To be helpful, the reasons I love this little machine are below:

1) The size is perfect for small counters. It takes up very little space and fits great in the corner where it's out of the way.

2) It comes assembled, so all you need to do is wash the water dispenser, run some plain water through the machine a couple of times and then add the coffee capsule

3) The milk frother is THE best thing ever! It's so simple to use. Add milk up to the minimum or maximum line, put on the lid and press the button and then let it do its thing. It makes the PERFECT milk for your espresso... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars From Luxury to Necessity, September 9, 2011

This review is from: Nespresso Essenza C101 Espresso Maker with Aeroccino Milk Frother, Black (Kitchen)
I bought the small machine with aerocino milk frother. I purchased the introductory coffee sampler via Nestle the same day. I received the coffee and machines on the same day, two days after ordering. What do I own a car for? I've had the machine for over a month, and it has replaced my coffee machine. I gave my old espresso machine away within a week. The espresso is incredibly good, and has a nice aromatic rich crema. I believe the machine puts out 19 bar of pressure. It can be calibrated to increase or decrease the volume of the shot or lungo (about 2.5 shots). Nespresso coffee does come with the machine. You get 16 coffee pods. I would highly recommend the introductory offer of 200 pods from Nespresso. You get a nice wooden box which holds about 40 pods with the "wheel" showing each coffee blend with its strength. You get a nice set of books describing the flavors of the blends and the regions they come from. The Lungo coffees have about 25% more grind. Of the decaf... Read more

The coffee tastes really good. Don't let snobs and wannabes tell you that Nespresso is nowhere comparable to espresso brewed with a Rancilio or a Gaggia. Nespresso makes excellent espressos, and the capsule system is very convenient and clean. However, the Nespresso machines made by Nestle feel cheap. They are made of low-quality plastic all around. Nespresso could charge a bit more and offer the same Essenza models in metallic casing, instead of cheap plastic.

Best Espresso Machine Buying Breville BES900XL Semi Automatic Espresso Machine

best espresso machine See Breville BES900XL Semi Automatic Espresso Machine Details

Customer Rating :
Rating: 5.0

List Price : $1,499.99 Price : $1,199.95
Breville BES900XL Semi Automatic Espresso Machine

Product Description

Commercial features and performance, in a domestic foot print. Espresso perfection requires precision temperature and pressure control, consistently, every time. At the heart of this machine is its dual stainless steel boiler heating system with electronic PID temperature control. The brew boiler, for the espresso shot, is adjustable (190 - 205 degrees F) for different bean roasts and origins, while a separate steam boiler offers instant and powerful steam on demand. So you can extract your shot at the right temperature, delivering optimal flavor, while simultaneously steaming your milk to cafe quality with the 3-hole tipped, 360-degree swivel steam wand. What's more, there is a Heat Exchanger (HX) and another element in the group head, ensuring the entire system maintains a consistent temperature.

The Dual Boiler also features an Over Pressure Valve (OPV) which limits the 15 Bar Italian pump throughout the extraction, preventing bitter flavors in the shot. It also offers a true low pressure pre-infusion, which gradually increases the pressure to gently expand the grinds for an even extraction.

But there's much more to this machine for the coffee geek. A temperature display in either Fahrenheit or Celsius; a preset/manual-override/programmable shot volume; and programmable pre-infusion duration and pre-infusion power. At the same time we’ve kept it simple with user-friendly features. An optional Auto Start setting preheats the machine at a programmed time; a top-fill 84 fl. oz (2.5L) water tank ensures easy access; and the dedicated hot water outlet makes it faster to pre-heat cups or prepare an Americano. There is also a shot clock and pressure gauge to help you improve your barista skills over time. All you'll need are some freshly ground beans and a bit of practice to rival the best cafe.

  • Dual stainless steel boilers & dual italian pumps. over-pressure (opv) limits extraction pressure.
  • Electronic pad temperature control for precise water temperature, plus actively heated group head and heat exchanger to maintain thermal stability
  • Backlit lcd displays brew temperature; assists with programming shot temperature and volume, pre-infusion duration and power, and auto start time
  • Drop down swivel foot lowers a wheel that lifts the machine upwards for convenient access to the water tank (both rear and top-fill)
  • Includes 58mm stainless steel portafilter, single and dual wall filters, tamper, 25 oz frothing jug, cleaning tablets, 1 year supply of water filters

5.0 out of 5 stars HOLY ESPRESSO BATMAN! THIS THING IS MAGIC, November 21, 2011
This review is from: Breville BES900XL Semi Automatic Espresso Machine (Kitchen)
I don't even know where to start. I just got this "Lamborghini" of espresso machines, about 2 hours ago and after about 6 tries I pulled a perfect shot.

When I say perfect, I mean double-shot-single-wall-filter-14gr-30-lbs-of-tamper-pressure-200F-9-bars-30-second-extraction-2oz-full-of-crema PERFECT.

I have been using a BES820XL for quite some time and I was very happy with the quality and all my friends always said that my espresso was the best they've ever tried. True, my espresso has always been consistent and close to the coffee I drank throughout Italy.

UNTIL NOW.

I can't believe the difference this machine made. I mean the same coffee (same amount of coffee & same tamper pressure & 30 second extraction) tastes like it's not from the same beans. It tastes like dark chocolate with a very long finish and a delicious aftertaste. The same coffee pulled through BES820XL lacked the finish and wasn't as full-bodied.

The machine is a... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars What do Australians know about espresso?, November 22, 2011
This review is from: Breville BES900XL Semi Automatic Espresso Machine (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
Well, quite a bit judging from the latest espresso effort from Breville. Since I love espresso, this is going to be a lengthy review. My apologies.

If you would rather not read all my ramblings, the bottom line is this is a great consumer-level machine with some "prosumer" features. It is very user friendly and has an abundance of well thought-out convenience touches. My concerns are that it has to be professionally serviced every 4-5 years and that it lacks a proven track record regarding reliability. I think it's a good match for someone who wants a feature-rich machine that offers ease-of-use automation, but also the ability to take a hands-on approach should one desire. The brand name won't impress the "serious" espresso crowd, but it hits the mark where it counts - tasty espresso.

My heart was set on a Rocket. I decided to try the Breville even though it didn't have the E61 group head nor the proven track record of quality. The group head is controlled by an element rather than the Rocket's mechanical E61 approach. I shy away from Breville because their products aren't great quality, but this machine is very well thought out:

Pros:
the drip tray tells you when it's time to empty so you don't accidentally overflow it; the tamp stores nicely with a magnetic insert; the choice between manual and the automatic volume buttons make pulling the shot easy; the PID temperature control on the group head lets me choose brew temp almost on the fly; the pressure gauge helps me adjust my grind and tamp; the lever action steam wand is much easier to use than a round knob; there is a wheel that drops down beneath the drip tray to make it easy to maneuver the machine on the counter; the water tank will overflow into the drip tray if you overfill; you can pour... 5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Super Automatics Out There for the Price, May 11, 2007

This review is from: DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Super-Automatic Espresso/Coffee Machine (Kitchen)
I have the EAM3200, which is the previous model version. The differences are slight but noticeable to the newer. These machines are the best in class for price and performance, produce a great espresso, and are maintainable in ways that other manufacturers models are not. The coffee from the Delonghi is just as good as from Jura and even some manual models such as Expobar and Rancillo. It is very close to what you find in Italy - not quite, but for the price it is worth it. Great crema, hot temperature, rich flavor. And the best part is you can pull out the brew mechanism and clean it - VERY key. This will ensure sound operation and function for many years.

In order to keep this machine is fine working order, you need to do a bit of upkeep each week and use the right beans.

1. Only use non-oily, 100% Arabica beans. If you use oily beans it will clog frequently and attract rancid flavors. It will also shorten the life of the machine. I use Illy, but any espresso... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee, build quality problems, April 20, 2009

This review is from: DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Super-Automatic Espresso/Coffee Machine (Kitchen)
[This review applies to the Magnifica 3200, this is the same as the 3300 with slight cosmetic differences.]

I bought this machine in 2006 after an almost-endless trawl through the internet reading owners' reviews - after all, we are talking about the search for the perfect espresso here!

The coffee quality is indeed great. The only misgivings I would have about using it are that the knobs have no user markings, which means that if there are several people in the house using the machine, it is impossible to select the previously-selected individual settings. Also, the time before the machine performs an auto-switchoff is fixed at about three hours. I couldn't find the power comsumption in the user manual when in "idle" mode, but I think it must be substantial since it keeps the boiler/cup-preheater hot during this time. Not that the preheater is any use - I warm my cups by first wetting them and then putting them in the microwave for 30 seconds.

This review is from: DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Super-Automatic Espresso/Coffee Machine (Kitchen)
This is an update after three years of using our Magnifica.

We bought our Magnifica after using a similar machine while visiting friends in Germany. We have been using it for over 3 years now, and are still quite happy with it. My wife and I both drink a lot of coffee -- tall Americanos most of the day. I am a full time telecommuter, so I will average 3-5 a day in winter, 2-4 in summer. We also love being able to fill a couple of 16 oz. insulated cups before leaving on a road trip. I would say this machine probably gets more use than the manufacturer intended.

The unit has been fairly trouble free. We have noticed a few occasions when water leaked from the tank where it connected to the machine, leaving a puddle on the counter. After a cleaning and more carefully aligning the tank, it ceased being a problem. We have run the de-liming process when the machine asked for it. So far no other problems. I would strongly recommend a complete, thorough cleaning inside... Read more
